Aeroplane Gurudwara, Jalandar, Punjab

Aeroplane Gurudwara or Shaheed Baba Nihal Singh Ji Gurudwara is one of its kind in the country. This holy shrine is frequented by visa-seekers. It is believed that if you pray in this temple and offer a toy aeroplane, you will get your visa soon enough.

No one knows who came up with this unusual idea of offering aeroplanes to the shrine. However, there is a story behind this strange belief among locals. Many years ago, a group of boys who were waiting for their visas offered toy aeroplanes at the gurudwara and prayed for the fulfilment of their wish to go abroad. And their wish was granted!

Since then, the shrine is popularly known as Aeroplane Gurudwara or Hawai Jahaz Gurudwara. At the end of each day, the toy planes are collected and given to young children who come here to pay their respects as prasad.

Aeroplane Gurudwara was built around 150 years ago by Harnam Singh, a disciple of Baba Nihal Singh Ji. It houses the samadhi of Baba Nihal Singh and is a famous place of worship among locals and tourists.

Interesting facts about Gabbar Singh

Gabbar Singh was modelled on a real-life dacoit Gabbar Singh Gujjar who had menaced the villages around Gwalior in the 1950s. Any policeman captured by Gujjar had his ears, and nose cut off, and was released as a warning to other policemen.

Actor Amjad Ali Khan, who played the iconic role of Gabbar Singh was not the first choice for the character and was almost dropped from the film. Scriptwriter Javed Akhtar wasn’t very convinced by Amjad’s voice but later agreed to Sippy's vision and the rest is history.

Danny Denzongpa was the first choice for the character of Gabbar Singh.

The rustic language which Gabbar uses with one and all in the village, especially Basanti in that “khurach khurach ke” scene where Gabbar threatens the talkative taangewali in a rural and remote dialect gives Gabbar a separate class. He’s somewhere between a local gunda and a full fledged international don (in terms of the sophisticated terror he projects).

5 ways to improve communication skills

Be brief, yet specific.

For written and verbal communication, practice being brief yet specific enough, that you provide enough information for the other person to understand what you are trying to say. And if you are responding to an email, make sure that you read the entire email before crafting your response. With enough practice, you will learn not to ramble, or give way too much information

Write things down.

Take notes while you are talking to another person or when you are in a meeting, and do not rely on your memory. Send a follow-up email to make sure that you understand what was being said during the conversation.

Sometimes it's better to pick up the phone.

If you find that you have a lot to say, instead of sending an email, call the person instead. Email is great, but sometimes it is easier to communicate what you have to say verbally.

Think before you speak.

Always pause before you speak, not saying the first thing that comes to mind. Take a moment and pay close attention to what you say and how you say it. This one habit will allow you to avoid embarrassments.

Have courage to say what you think.

Be confident in knowing that you can make worthwhile contributions to conversation. Take time each day to be aware of your opinions and feelings so you can adequately convey them to others. Individuals who are hesitant to speak because they do not feel their input would be worthwhile need not fear. What is important or worthwhile to one person may not be to another and may be more so to someone else.

Interesting facts about credit cards

The concept of using a card for purchases was described in 1887 by Edward Bellamy in his utopian novel Looking Backwards. Bellamy used the term credit card 11 times in his novel, although this referred to a card for spending a citizen's dividend from the government, rather than borrowing, making it more similar to a debit card.

However - Modern credit card was first invented and implemented by a Brooklyn banker named John Biggins in 1946. By 1980s users started getting travel rewards for using credit cards.

Diners Club issued world's first credit card in USA in 1950 which can be used to pay restaurant bills.

It is called A Credit Card, because "credit" is what is extended to you at the time of the transaction and "debt" is your financial state after the transaction.

BLUE BRAIN - Can we think in 11 dimensions ?

Blue Brain Project is an interesting research project in the field of neuro-science conducted in Lausanne, Switzerland. The primary objective was that the virtual brain will help us to understand different aspects of human brain such as perception, memory and perhaps even consciousness.

Neuroscientists working in this project, used algebraic topology to study human brain's neural network and what they found was something astonishing. YES, human brain's structure operates in 11 dimensions.

Algebraic topology is like a telescope and microscope at the same time. It can zoom into the complicated web of billions of neural networks to find the hidden structures and find intricate details.

The Blue Brain Project is a Swiss brain research initiative that aims to create a digital reconstruction of rodent and eventually human brains by reverse-engineering mammalian brain circuitry. The project is headed by the founding director Mr.Henry Markram - who also launched the European Human Brain Project. The Blue Brain Project was launched in May 2005.

By Dec 2008, the first artificial cellular neocortical columns of 10,000 cells were built.  By July 2011, a cellular mesocircuit of 100 neocortical columns of with a million cells in total was built.

These in-depth research, can help us understand how certain malfunctions of the brain's microcircuits could cause psychiatric disorders such as autism, schizophrenia or depression.

But by 2017, real breakthrough happened. The neuro-scientists working on the project found that the neural network inside the human brain was connected to one another in 11 dimensions, and that is precisely why human brain can think and build structures in 11 dimensions as well.

This ambitious project is funded by the Swiss government and the Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) Flagship grant from the European Commission.

Artificial Intelligence is our future

Article - Sudhir Pai

Like it or hate it. But we humans will have to face Artificial Intelligence by 2030. Are we ready for it?

So - What is Artificial Intelligence?

To different people, Artificial Intelligence (AI) means different things. For some it could be self driving cars or a robot who can be a good friend to us.

Today's computers are far smarter than most of the humans in terms of memory and computational power. But the big question is whether Robots can exactly behave and think like humans in terms of emotions? Yes - says some scientists and futurists.

Deep learning even known as machine learning will allow computers or robots to learn everything by themselves. This is interesting and at times can become even scary.

Some Top Artificial Intelligence Companies :

  • Amazon
  • Google
  • Facebook
Many new players like Apex Technologies and Petuum are doing some exciting projects in Artificial Intelligence domain.

Career Opportunities :

Promising career lies ahead to those who learn Artificial Intelligence and Robotics like :
  • Algorithm specialists.
  • Artificial Intelligence scientist.
  • Robotics Process Automation.
  • And more ...
Good movies on Robotics :
  • The Terminator.
  • Bicentennial Man.
  • Short Circuit.
  • Robot
  • 2.0
  • And more ...
Books on Artificial Intelligence :
  • Life 3.0 by Max Tegmark.
  • How To Create A Mind by Ray Kurzweil.
  • Deep Learning by Aaron Courville.
  • And more ...
So - What are you waiting for?

Buy a book or google or watch an YouTube Video on above future technologies.
